Evewright and Renate Moritz have taken the act of drawing into the sand and sea space. The artists use hoe, rake or rotavator to work line drawings, spontaneously and independently yet clearly aware of the huge composition as it emerges in the sand surface. The camera stationed on a crane observes the two figures as they transform the canvas which the tide creates for a time. Hours later, 60 people, all dressed in black, appear. Two groups form to enter the drawing. Seen within the huge space the figures are black upright pegs to walk the drawings, so entering the artifact as an autonomous being. Drawn lines become pathways, lifted into 3-dimensional space as the figures walk these, accentuating, forming and dissolving sections.

This film installation attempts to redefine the role of the figure in drawing with the use of digital video. It also investigates the idea of public interaction with art. The two-way dialogue blends traditional ideologies with fresh application. Walking drawings is an experiment in a new way of drawing swapping traditional media such as paint, charcoal, paper with digital celluloid pixels, video screens and people.
